September 26 - Tony Musso - Will be presenting the release of my 10th book, "Madams, Mobsters and Murders in the Hudson Valley"
Back Cover narrative:
The tranquil environment of New York’s Hudson Valley is the site of both peaceful rural communities and single-family housing developments. Tourists visit the area’s historic Gilded Age mansions, elaborate gardens, Revolutionary War battlefields, and many other points of interest.
Yet some of the Hudson Valley’s heritage includes more harrowing tales.
From the late nineteenth century through 1950, one otherwise industrious city earned the distinction of being dubbed “The Weekend Vice Resort” for its many gambling halls, brothels and other activities of ill repute.
October 24 - Shannon Butler - Historic Murders in Dutchess County
Join Historian Shannon Butler as she discusses some of Dutchess County’s most gruesome murders from the 18th to the early 20th centuries. Using court records, early newspaper articles, and pamphlets, we’ll examine several killers including one of the first female serial killers, the horrible murder of a Poughkeepsie businessman in his own home, and several more bloody acts
November 28 - Brian Reid - “Brian Reid is long time secretary & club historian for the Hudson River Ice Yacht Club. He will talk about the history of ice yachting on the Hudson River & share vintage photos & videos of the historic ice yachts. He plans to include home movies of Crumwold Hall and the Rogers family ice boating off Rogers point. Come hear tales of races for 30 foot silk pennants & silver cups and the skippers of these unique racing ice yachts. “
Keep checking back to find out what else is coming during 2023.
We welcome input into future events that would be of interest to the citizens of Hyde Park
